Colorado Springs, CO – Strong winds and increased fire danger are set to impact southern Colorado on Thursday, with gusts up to 60 mph. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a High Wind Warning through noon Wednesday and a Fire Weather Watch for Thursday afternoon through the evening.

According to the NWS, northern and southern El Paso County, including Colorado Springs and Peterson Space Force Base, will experience northwest winds of 30-40 mph, with gusts reaching 60 mph. The strongest winds will occur over eastern El Paso County, making travel hazardous for high-profile vehicles, especially along Interstate 25 and the Palmer Divide. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and secure outdoor objects.

By Thursday, a Fire Weather Watch will be in effect for parts of Fremont, Pueblo, Huerfano, and Las Animas counties due to low humidity and gusty winds up to 45 mph. Officials warn that any fires that start could spread rapidly.
