Pueblo, Colorado – High fire danger returns to Colorado’s mountains Sunday as gusty winds and low humidity create ripe wildfire conditions across the region. Meanwhile, temperatures soar into the upper 90s across the southeast plains, with severe thunderstorms expected to develop by late afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for Fremont, Chaffee, Saguache, and surrounding counties. The biggest fire risk lies west of I-25, where wind gusts above 35 mph and single-digit humidity levels are expected through the evening.
Cities including Pueblo, La Junta, and Springfield are under heat advisories as high temperatures near 97°F could intensify storm development later today. Storm threats include damaging winds, large hail, and lightning—especially across Baca, Bent, and Prowers counties. Residents should avoid outdoor burning, secure loose items, and prepare for potential power outages.
