Pueblo, Colorado – Another round of heavy rain and strong thunderstorms will sweep across Colorado Friday, raising concerns over flash flooding and dangerous travel, especially in and around Pueblo, Trinidad, and the southeast plains.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the most widespread storms are expected near higher terrain Friday afternoon, with activity spreading into the southeast plains by evening. Gusty outflow winds could reach 45 mph, with isolated storms packing winds up to 60 mph and producing hail. Flash flooding remains the biggest concern for areas with already saturated soils and near the foothills.

Local emergency officials warn that quick rises in creeks and rivers are possible, especially where storms linger. Key routes, including I-25 south of Pueblo and U.S. 50 east toward La Junta, could see water over the road or rapid reductions in visibility. Residents are urged to avoid travel through flooded roadways, keep mobile devices charged, and have alternate routes ready.

These storms continue a weeklong pattern of monsoon-driven downpours across southern Colorado—mirroring active periods seen in recent summers. Localized flooding and wind damage could persist into the early hours of Saturday, and additional alerts are possible if rainfall intensifies.

Warnings remain in effect through Friday night. Stay tuned for the latest local advisories and be prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions.
