Grand Junction, CO – Winter weather has returned to the San Juan Mountains, with moderate to heavy snow expected through Sunday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.

Forecasters say snow showers will develop through the day, mainly impacting areas above 9,000 feet, where winter driving conditions are likely on several major passes including Monarch, Red Mountain, Molas, Wolf Creek, Lizard Head, and Slumgullion.

Travelers should prepare for snow-packed roads and reduced visibility, particularly along U.S. Highways 50, 550, 160, 145, and 149. Meanwhile, lower valleys south of the I-70 corridor will see rain showers through the afternoon.

The system is expected to move east of the Continental Divide by tonight, leaving behind a few lingering mountain snow showers into early Monday morning.

Drivers are urged to check CDOT road conditions and allow extra travel time if crossing high-elevation routes in southwest Colorado.
