Pueblo, Colorado – Severe thunderstorms could sweep across eastern Colorado Monday afternoon, bringing hail up to one inch in diameter and wind gusts topping 60 mph if cloud cover clears in time to destabilize the atmosphere.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the region faces a marginal risk for severe weather today, especially across the central and southeastern Plains, including cities like La Junta, Lamar, and Trinidad. The timing and intensity of storms hinge on whether morning cloud cover lifts—if it does, conditions will become more favorable for hail-producing cells and damaging winds.
Communities along I-25 and US-50 should prepare for fast-changing weather through the evening. The greatest risk spans areas from Pueblo eastward, where localized heavy rainfall and frequent lightning could also disrupt travel. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and monitor local alerts.
Storm activity is expected to diminish after sunset, but forecasters warn that any clearing this afternoon could sharply increase the chance of severe impacts. Additional updates will follow if the threat intensifies.
