Pueblo, CO – A chilly start to October is underway in southern Colorado, with frost reported this morning across the San Luis Valley. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo warns that breezy winds, cooler temperatures, and even light mountain snow are possible later this weekend.

According to the NWS, Thursday began with frost in central and southern portions of the San Luis Valley, though no other hazards are expected today. Warmer, sunny conditions will return for most of Friday, with highs reaching the mid-80s in Colorado Springs.

However, a stronger weather system will arrive late Friday into Saturday, bringing increased winds, cooler temperatures, and the chance of showers and thunderstorms. By Saturday night, gusty westerly winds could push into south-central Colorado, with light snow possible along the Continental Divide and higher mountain peaks.

Temperatures will dip further into Sunday, with lows falling into the low 40s in Colorado Springs and below freezing in the San Luis Valley. Sub-freezing overnight temperatures could linger into early next week, keeping the frost risk elevated for rural areas.

Travelers heading into the mountains this weekend should be prepared for changing conditions, including slick roads in higher elevations. Winds may also create dangerous fire weather concerns in the plains before moisture arrives.
