Pueblo, CO – A Frost Advisory is in effect for southern and central portions of the San Luis Valley through 9 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo. Temperatures dropped to between 33 and 36 degrees overnight, creating conditions favorable for frost development.

According to the weather service, clear skies and light winds allowed widespread cooling, leaving outdoor plants at risk of damage. Residents in Alamosa, Antonito, and surrounding communities are urged to cover sensitive vegetation until temperatures rise later in the morning.

Forecast maps show lows dipping into the mid-30s across much of the valley, with colder spots such as Alamosa and Creede approaching near-freezing levels. Areas farther east, including Pueblo and Colorado Springs, remained in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees overnight, staying well above frost thresholds.

The advisory will expire by mid-morning as sunshine and warming bring temperatures back into the 60s and 70s. However, forecasters warn that another round of near- or below-freezing temperatures could return by Sunday morning, potentially extending the growing season challenges for farmers and gardeners in the San Luis Valley.

The next two nights are expected to be warmer, offering a temporary break before the weekend cooldown. The weather service advises monitoring updated forecasts and preparing to protect plants again if frost conditions re-emerge.

Residents are encouraged to report any observed frost damage to local extension offices and share conditions on social media to help track the early-season cold impacts.
