Pueblo, CO – Drivers in southern Colorado are urged to use caution this morning as the National Weather Service (NWS) Pueblo has issued a Freezing Fog Advisory for portions of the San Luis Valley, including Alamosa, Saguache, and Rio Grande counties, in effect through 9 a.m. Monday, November 24.
According to the NWS, visibilities have dropped to ¼ mile or less in several areas, particularly across central and eastern parts of the valley, where dense fog is combining with subfreezing temperatures to create slick and icy road conditions.
Freezing fog occurs when water droplets freeze upon contact with surfaces, leading to hazardous travel, especially on bridges and untreated roads. Drivers are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunrise as temperatures rise and fog lifts. However, motorists traveling along U.S. Highway 160 and U.S. Highway 285 should remain alert for localized patches of lingering fog into mid-morning.
