Pueblo, CO – The National Weather Service Pueblo warns of critical fire weather conditions today followed by a hard freeze midweek, signaling a dramatic shift in Colorado’s weather pattern.

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect through 6 p.m. Monday for the I-25 corridor, including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Walsenburg, due to gusty west winds and low humidity. Winds may exceed 40 mph at times, increasing wildfire risk across dry terrain. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with any open flames.

A Fire Weather Watch is also in place for Tuesday over the San Luis Valley and high country, where winds will stay strong even as cooler air moves in behind a passing cold front tonight.

That front will bring a sharp cooldown, with the coldest air of the season arriving by Tuesday night. The NWS has issued a Freeze Watch for parts of the plains — including Baca County and eastern Fremont County — where temperatures could fall into the teens and mid-20s by Wednesday morning.

Forecasters urge residents to protect outdoor pipes, irrigation systems, and sensitive vegetation ahead of the freeze.
