Denver, Colorado – Denver and much of north-central Colorado are under a Red Flag Warning for critical fire danger Friday as another day of extreme heat grips the region, with the wildfire threat persisting into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, a Red Flag Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. Friday across the northern mountains, high valleys, and the Denver metro, including Boulder, Larimer, Weld, and Douglas counties. Temperatures will again climb into the upper 90s to near 100°F, while humidity plunges and gusty southwest winds add to the risk of fast-moving wildfires. A Heat Advisory remains in place for lower elevations around Denver, with the risk for heat illness highest in the late afternoon.

The extreme fire risk means any spark could quickly turn dangerous—especially near grassy open space, trailheads, and neighborhoods on the city’s west and south sides. Residents should avoid outdoor burning, delay mowing or power tool use, and use extra caution with grills or cigarettes. Outdoor recreation and travel could be impacted by the fire threat, with smoke or emergency closures possible on some trails and highways near the foothills.

Looking ahead, the National Weather Service says fire weather conditions will remain elevated Saturday in the high country, but a gradual cooling trend will arrive Sunday and Monday. While some afternoon thunderstorms may develop over the weekend, most of Denver will stay hot and dry.

Stay weather-aware, and check for updates as advisories may be extended or upgraded if winds pick up or new fires are reported.
