Colorado Springs residents should brace for another round of severe thunderstorms Sunday, with flash flooding, damaging hail, and travel delays likely. Storms are expected to intensify during the afternoon and evening, creating hazardous driving conditions along Interstate 25 and surrounding roadways.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the strongest storms will strike the Pikes Peak region between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday. Wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail larger than one inch, and torrential downpours could quickly overwhelm drainage systems and low-lying roads. Drivers are urged to avoid flood-prone areas, particularly along I-25, Highway 24, and the Monument Hill corridor.

The risk extends beyond Colorado Springs, with Teller County, El Paso County, and the Wet Mountain Valley also facing heavy rainfall. Forecasters warn that rainfall totals of one to three inches are possible, raising the threat of flash flooding through early next week. Isolated tornadoes in higher terrain cannot be ruled out.

Moisture will remain in place through much of the week, fueling additional strong storms across southern Colorado each afternoon. Residents are encouraged to charge devices, secure outdoor items, and monitor local alerts for updates.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected daily through Thursday, keeping the flood risk elevated across the region.
