Colorado Springs, Colo. – Severe thunderstorms are set to hammer Colorado Springs and much of southern Colorado Monday, bringing damaging winds, hail, and dangerous flash flooding. Interstate 25 travelers face the highest risk Monday afternoon into evening, when storms are likely to intensify quickly.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms could deliver wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to one inch. Flash flooding remains a serious concern, particularly on recent burn scars and low-lying roads. Officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel during peak storm hours and to stay alert for sudden flooding near creeks and intersections.

The greatest impacts are expected across El Paso, Teller, and Pueblo counties, but storms will extend east into the Plains by late evening. The Palmer Divide region could see the most intense rainfall, with rapid runoff possible. Drivers on Highway 24 and I-25 should prepare for sudden low visibility and standing water.

Severe weather threats will not end Monday. Daily thunderstorms, fueled by monsoon moisture, are expected through at least Saturday. Each round of storms carries the potential for flash flooding, lightning, and damaging winds.

Residents should keep phones charged, secure outdoor items, and review emergency plans now. Warnings may be issued quickly as storms develop, and conditions can change within minutes.

The National Weather Service emphasizes that additional advisories are likely throughout the week as moisture lingers over the region.
