Pueblo, Colo. – A strong cold front swept through Southern Colorado late Sunday, dropping temperatures below seasonal norms and setting the stage for severe thunderstorms Monday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the southeastern plains and mountains—especially areas near Lamar, Springfield, and La Junta—face a marginal risk for severe weather through Monday evening. Scattered storms may bring 1-inch hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph, with the highest threat after 1 p.m.
Highs Monday will range from the 50s in the high country to low 80s across the plains, including 82°F in Lamar and 81°F in Springfield. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected across the region, with instability strongest east of I-25.
Drivers on US Highway 50 and Interstate 25 should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions and avoid travel during heavy downpours. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and monitor alerts, especially in counties bordering Kansas and New Mexico.
The severe threat diminishes overnight, but additional storm chances continue into midweek.
