Colorado drivers woke to a sharp winter punch as snow swirled across the Front Range, coating roads and cutting visibility during the early commute. Gusty winds pushed snow sideways, leaving stretches of pavement slick and unpredictable across southern Colorado.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Colorado Springs and southern El Paso County until early afternoon. Heavy snow and blowing snow continue this morning, with additional accumulation up to two inches possible. Winds may gust as high as 45 mph, creating whiteout conditions at times, especially on exposed roadways.

Travel impacts are most significant along I-25, Highway 24, and secondary roads across Colorado Springs. Visibility may drop below one mile during heavier bursts of snow. Slippery conditions could also bring down tree branches, adding to travel hazards during the morning hours.

Temperatures remain cold, holding in the mid 20s today, which allows snow to stick even on treated roads. Drivers should slow down, increase following distance, and carry winter emergency supplies if travel is necessary. Local agencies urge residents to delay non-essential trips until conditions improve later today.

Snow tapers from west to east this afternoon as drier air moves in. Clearing skies tonight allow temperatures to plunge into the single digits, setting the stage for refreezing on untreated surfaces. Black ice may redevelop late tonight and early Saturday, even where roads appear dry.

Saturday brings sunshine and calmer winds, with highs rebounding into the low 40s. A gradual warming trend continues into Sunday and Monday, offering a break from the worst of this winter blast.

Road conditions remain dynamic this morning. How are roads looking where you are?
