Pueblo, Colorado – A rapid warmup is underway across southern Colorado, with temperatures climbing into the 90s by Wednesday afternoon and creating conditions that could quickly elevate wildfire risk across the plains.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, dry weather will dominate through midweek with no measurable precipitation expected. Highs will rise from the 60s and 70s Monday into the mid-80s Tuesday, before peaking between 84 and 93 degrees Wednesday across the plains, including Pueblo and surrounding communities.
Along the I-25 corridor from Trinidad through Colorado Springs, low humidity and increasing sunshine will dry out fuels quickly. Mountain valleys, including areas near Salida and Alamosa, will also warm into the upper 70s to low 80s, while higher elevations remain cooler but still above seasonal norms.
Residents should avoid outdoor burning and use caution with equipment that could spark fires. Securing chains, properly disposing of cigarettes, and staying alert to local fire restrictions will be critical as conditions dry out.
The heat remains in place through midweek, and additional advisories could be issued if fire danger intensifies or records are challenged Wednesday afternoon.
