Colorado – Light snowflakes drifted across the Front Range before sunrise, dusting cold pavement while sharp mountain winds strengthened west of Denver. Drivers heading toward the high country should expect powerful gusts and sudden blowing snow through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, a High Wind Warning remains in effect for parts of the Colorado mountains until 2 p.m. today, with gusts reaching 70 to 80 mph along exposed ridges and corridors near Interstate 70 and Highway 285 in South Park. Strong crosswinds could affect high-profile vehicles traveling through mountain passes.

Across the Denver metro, conditions feel calmer but still brisk early today. Temperatures started the morning near 9°F at Buckley Space Force Base, with wind chills briefly dipping below zero before sunrise. The cold air won’t last long.

Meteorologists now tracking a rapid spring warmup across northeast Colorado say temperatures will surge through the week as a strong ridge builds over the western United States.

Denver climbs to around 50°F today, then quickly jumps into the low 70s Tuesday as breezy southwest winds develop across the plains. Winds may gust as high as 24 mph Tuesday afternoon, especially east of the city toward Aurora and Brighton.

By Wednesday afternoon, bright sunshine pushes temperatures close to 80°F in Denver, a dramatic swing from the icy start to the week. The warmth continues Thursday with highs near 84°F, bringing a true taste of early spring across the Front Range.

That rapid thaw can create slick conditions after sunset. Melting snow may refreeze on bridges and ramps along I-25, I-70, and C-470, increasing the risk of sudden spinouts.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items today and stay alert for strong winds in mountain travel zones. Fire weather concerns may increase Tuesday across northern Colorado plains near the Wyoming border.

More advisories could follow as this unusual March weather pattern evolves.
