Denver, Colorado – Snow and gusty winds are already slowing traffic across the Denver metro Friday morning, with several inches of accumulation expected to create slushy and slick roads through the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across much of the Front Range through 8 p.m. Friday, with 2 to 4 inches of additional snow possible in Denver, Boulder, Lakewood, Aurora, and Arvada. Wind gusts may reach 35 mph, which could briefly reduce visibility and push slush across busy corridors.

Drivers along Interstate 25, Interstate 70, and E-470 may encounter periods of slick pavement during heavier bursts of snow. Forecasters say some areas could briefly change to rain or wet roads during the afternoon before temperatures drop again Friday evening.

Farther south in Castle Rock, Elizabeth, and Larkspur, the advisory lasts until midnight Friday night. Those higher elevations could see 2 to 7 inches of snow with wind gusts up to 40 mph, making travel more difficult along Interstate 25 through Douglas County.

Mountain areas including Park, Grand, Jackson, and Summit counties may pick up 2 to 6 inches of additional snow, especially near Fairplay and South Park, with slick conditions on regional highways and mountain passes.

Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, leave extra stopping distance, and check current road conditions through Colorado’s 511 system or cotrip.org before traveling.

Snow showers should gradually taper late Friday night, but lingering slick spots could continue into early Saturday if temperatures fall below freezing.
