Grand Junction, Colorado – A rapid warmup is underway across western Colorado today, bringing dry air and gusty winds that could elevate fire danger through the rest of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, temperatures will rebound 10 to 15 degrees above mid-March averages beginning Thursday, while afternoon wind gusts between 25 and 35 mph develop across the lower Colorado River Valley and surrounding high desert. Dry conditions combined with gusty winds may allow small fires to spread quickly in open terrain.

Cities including Grand Junction, Fruita, Palisade, and Delta could see breezy afternoons through Saturday, particularly along exposed roadways such as Interstate 70 and U.S. Highway 50. Winds may create blowing dust in rural areas while increasing wildfire risk in dry grasslands.

Temperatures will climb steadily through the end of the week. Grand Junction could reach the lower to mid-70s by Saturday, while nearby mountain communities like Steamboat Springs remain cooler with highs mainly in the 40s and 50s.

A weak system this weekend could bring isolated rain or snow showers along Colorado’s Northern Divide, though most of western Colorado is expected to stay dry. Forecasters say breezy conditions may persist into early next week if the dry pattern holds.
