Colorado – Wet pavement and low clouds are settling in across Denver, while snow continues to fall in the nearby mountains, creating a split-weather pattern that could impact travel within hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, mountain snow continues through this evening, while rain and a rain-snow mix develop across lower elevations. Roads over I-70 mountain passes may become slick quickly, especially during bursts of heavier snow.
Across the Denver metro, scattered rain showers and even a brief rain-snow mix are possible. While accumulation in the city remains limited, temperatures hovering in the 40s could still create slushy spots on bridges and overpasses.
Conditions improve heading into Friday, but a new concern develops. Gusty southwest winds increase across the plains, with breezy and dry conditions raising the risk for fire weather, especially east of Denver.
Looking ahead to the weekend, a noticeable warm-up takes hold. Sunshine returns Saturday with highs climbing into the mid-60s, followed by upper 60s by Sunday. Snow and rain chances fade, offering a calmer stretch for outdoor plans along the Front Range.
However, mountain travel may remain tricky at times, especially with lingering snowpack and refreezing overnight. Drivers should stay alert for changing conditions, particularly at higher elevations.
Early next week continues mild, with temperatures returning to the 70s and a more typical spring pattern settling in across Colorado.
If you’re traveling through the mountains today, expect changing road conditions. Are you seeing snow or rain where you are?
