Colorado’s Front Range is heating up fast this morning, and by midday, dry air and gusty winds will combine to create explosive fire conditions across the Denver metro.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from early afternoon through 10 p.m. today. Winds will shift west and increase, with gusts reaching 24 mph. Humidity levels are expected to drop near 19 percent, while temperatures climb to 91°F. That combination sharply raises the risk for rapid wildfire spread.
Across Denver, Aurora, and Lakewood, grasses and open spaces have dried quickly under recent warmth. A single spark can move fast, especially along open corridors like I-25 and C-470. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Avoid parking on dry grass and secure trailer chains to prevent roadside sparks.
Sunday brings cooler air, with highs near 69°F and lighter winds. Conditions stabilize briefly, but the pattern stays active. Monday rebounds to the upper 70s, followed by another warm push Tuesday, March 24, with highs near 83°F under partly sunny skies.
Travelers should remain alert this afternoon. Crosswinds may impact high-profile vehicles, especially on east-west roads. Smoke could reduce visibility if fires develop nearby.
