Pueblo, Colorado – Southern Colorado is baking under dangerous heat again Sunday, with temperatures expected to reach 102°F in Pueblo and as high as 103°F in Springfield and Lamar. Afternoon mountain thunderstorms could begin to offer limited relief, but high temperatures and dry conditions will dominate the Plains through at least Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, much of the region will see highs in the upper 90s to low 100s today, including 101°F in La Junta and 100°F in Eads. The intense heat, paired with low humidity, increases the risk of dehydration and heat-related illness. Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat, wear light clothing, and drink water frequently—even if not thirsty.

Thunderstorms may return to the mountains this afternoon, especially near Alamosa and Salida, with a broader pattern of cooler temperatures and increased rain chances expected midweek. Tuesday highs fall to the 80s for many cities, and widespread cooling arrives by Wednesday.

Pets should be brought indoors, and those without air conditioning are encouraged to seek cooling centers. Heat safety remains critical through Monday evening.

More updates are expected as storm chances increase.
