Pueblo, Colo. – Colorado is bracing for a dramatic weather swing, with dangerous heat Monday giving way to strong to severe thunderstorms across the southeastern plains by Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, high temperatures will surge into the upper 90s and low 100s Monday across southern Colorado. La Junta and Lamar could top 101°F, with 97°F expected in Pueblo and 95°F in Colorado Springs. Combined with dry, gusty winds, fire weather concerns are elevated across the high country, especially in areas west of I-25.

By Tuesday, a cold front will push cooler air into the region and trigger isolated to scattered thunderstorms, some of which may turn severe. Storms are expected to ignite near the Pikes Peak region in the afternoon and spread southeast toward the Kansas border by evening.

The primary threats include wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to 2 inches in diameter. While the tornado risk remains low, forecasters warn the storm zone could expand west toward I-25, potentially affecting communities from Trinidad to Limon.

Residents are urged to take heat precautions Monday—limit outdoor activities and stay hydrated—and prepare for possible weather disruptions Tuesday by securing loose items and monitoring alerts. Travel delays, power outages, and localized damage are possible in storm-affected areas.

Conditions will clear and warm back up midweek, with dry, sunny weather and highs in the 90s forecast through Friday.
