Pueblo, Colo. – Dangerous heat and the threat of severe storms will grip southeast Colorado on Saturday, with triple-digit highs and damaging winds expected along the I-25 corridor through this evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, temperatures will climb to near 100°F in areas like La Junta, Lamar, and Pueblo. Afternoon and evening storms are likely, especially near the Kansas border. The primary threats include lightning, wind gusts up to 60 mph, and quarter-size hail between 5 p.m. and midnight.
Cities such as Trinidad, Springfield, and Eads may see isolated thunderstorms develop as early as 2 p.m., with increased activity moving eastward after sunset. Residents near U.S. Highway 50 and I-25 should be alert for rapidly changing weather and avoid outdoor activities during peak storm hours.
The heat poses a secondary hazard. Pavement surfaces may become dangerously hot, increasing risk for burns to children and pets. Locals are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
Storm chances will decrease overnight, but hot conditions are expected to return Sunday and peak again Monday before a cool-down midweek.
