Grand Junction, CO – A weak weather system and cold front will bring light snow to Colorado’s northern mountains tonight, followed by a stretch of cooler, more seasonable weather this weekend.
According to the US National Weather Service Grand Junction, the disturbance will arrive this evening, producing 1 to 4 inches of snow across mountain passes in northern Colorado, with slippery travel conditions possible overnight into early Saturday. Areas such as Steamboat Springs, Rabbit Ears Pass, and Vail Pass may see the most accumulation.
Temperatures will cool noticeably today compared to recent highs, with afternoon readings mainly in the 50s across the valleys and 40s in higher elevations. The weekend will feature seasonably cool and dry conditions, with lows dipping below freezing in many mountain areas.
No significant weather impacts are expected beyond light snow in the high country. By early next week, temperatures are forecast to warm back above normal, returning to mild and dry conditions through much of western Colorado and eastern Utah.
Travelers heading through the mountains tonight and Saturday morning should plan for slick roads and reduced visibility in snow showers.
