Grand Junction, Colorado – Residents across western Colorado and eastern Utah face extreme heat and critical fire weather conditions that will persist through Friday evening. High temperatures are expected to soar 10 to 15 degrees above normal, pushing into the triple digits across many desert valleys.

According to the US National Weather Service Grand Junction Colorado, a Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon Thursday until 8 p.m. Friday for portions of eastern Utah and western Colorado, where fuels are critically dry. Relative humidity will remain dangerously low, between 4% and 11%, accompanied by wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph.

Areas like Grand Junction could see temperatures near 100 degrees, while portions of southeast Utah are under a Heat Advisory with widespread temperatures of 105 to 108 degrees expected today. These dangerous heat conditions will significantly impact outdoor activities and pose a risk to those sensitive to heat. Residents should avoid outdoor burning, secure loose objects, and stay hydrated.

The combination of low humidity, strong winds, and scorching temperatures creates an elevated risk of rapid wildfire spread. This situation mirrors dangerous conditions seen in previous dry summers. Authorities urge caution and vigilance from all residents.

The Red Flag Warning and Heat Advisories remain in effect, and conditions will not improve significantly until Friday night.
