Grand Junction, Colorado – Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across much of western Colorado and southeast Utah, with accumulating snow and gusty winds creating hazardous travel conditions in higher elevations through early Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, additional snowfall of 4 to 10 inches is expected above 8,000 feet across multiple mountain zones, including the Elkhead and Park Mountains, Gore and Elk Mountains, West Elk and Sawatch Mountains, San Juan Mountains, Grand and Battlement Mesas, and the Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide. In the Flat Tops, snowfall totals of 4 to 8 inches are forecast.
Across southeast Utah, the La Sal and Abajo Mountains are expected to receive 4 to 10 inches of snow above 8,500 feet, with wind gusts up to 50 mph, leading to blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility.
The advisories remain in effect until 5 a.m. MST Friday. Travel could be very difficult, particularly along high-elevation roads and mountain passes including Vail Pass, Monarch Pass, Red Mountain Pass, Molas Pass, Coal Bank Pass, McClure Pass, and Lizard Head Pass.
Snow-covered and icy roads are likely to impact both the Thursday morning commute and overnight travel. Gusty winds may further reduce visibility in exposed areas.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check current road conditions by dialing 511 before traveling through mountainous terrain.
