Weld County, CO – Nearly three decades after the murder of James Vooris, Weld County investigators are once again asking the public for information that may help solve the 1996 cold case. The renewed appeal comes on the anniversary of Vooris’s death, which remains one of the region’s long-standing unsolved homicides.
According to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, Vooris was beaten to death on November 21, 1996, inside a room at the Super 8 Motel in Del Camino, located near Interstate 25 and Colorado 119. Deputies say that at the time of the investigation, several leads and potential suspects were developed, but no arrest was ever made.
Detectives believe the homicide was drug-related, though officials did not release additional details about the circumstances leading up to the attack. Because many years have passed, the sheriff’s office is urging anyone who may remember something—no matter how small—to contact investigators.
Cold case anniversaries are commonly used by law enforcement agencies to reignite public awareness and generate new information, especially in cases where witness accounts or community tips may unlock undiscovered details.
Investigators stress that even individuals who were in the area at the time, knew Vooris, or heard rumors about the case may have information that could help move the investigation forward.
Anyone with information related to James Vooris’ homicide is asked to call the Weld County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 970-304-6464 or email Crimetips@weld.gov.
