Greeley, Colo. – Residents across northeast Colorado should remain weather-aware this afternoon as a Tornado Watch remains in effect for eight counties through 8 p.m. MDT Sunday, including Weld, Morgan, and Kit Carson.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, conditions are favorable for tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds across much of the eastern plains. The watch includes Logan, Washington, Phillips, Sedgwick, and Yuma counties, covering major highways such as U.S. 34, U.S. 385, and I-76 corridors.
Communities like Sterling, Brush, and Wray could see fast-developing supercells capable of producing brief tornadoes, especially during peak heating between 3 and 7 p.m. Emergency officials advise residents to secure outdoor objects, review shelter plans, and stay near NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts.
This is the first tornado watch to affect the region in several weeks, arriving amid warmer-than-normal temperatures and unstable air surging up from the south. Hail up to 2 inches and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph are possible in the strongest storms.
The Tornado Watch remains active until 8 p.m., with additional watches or warnings possible into the evening as storms track east toward the Kansas border.
