Denver, CO – Residents across Colorado, Nebraska, North Dakota, and New Mexico should prepare for wetter conditions next week, as federal forecasters predict above-normal precipitation across much of the region.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the 8- to 14-day precipitation outlook shows increased odds of rainfall between Wednesday, September 17, and Tuesday, September 23. The forecast, issued September 9, places the central and northern Plains, along with much of the Rockies, in the “above normal” category.

This pattern suggests higher chances of showers and potentially heavier rain events during the week. Farmers and ranchers in Nebraska and North Dakota could benefit from added soil moisture, while residents in Colorado and New Mexico should be alert for localized flooding in low-lying or burn-scar areas.

While the Pacific Northwest and parts of the Northeast are projected to be drier than normal, much of the central U.S. leans toward wetter-than-average conditions. The National Weather Service emphasizes that this is a probability-based outlook, meaning above-normal rain is more likely, but not guaranteed.

Travelers and commuters across the four states are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and plan ahead for possible travel disruptions. Outdoor events and agricultural operations may need to adjust schedules based on updated daily weather reports.
