Pueblo, Colo. – Thunderstorms could bring hail, lightning, and dangerous winds to southern Colorado by late Thursday, with impacts most likely along the I-25 corridor and mountainous regions.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, strong afternoon and evening storms are expected to spark over the central Rockies before pushing southeast into the Plains. Peak temperatures will hit the upper 80s in areas like La Junta and Ordway, with 70s in the San Luis Valley.

Gusts near 50 mph, cloud-to-ground lightning, and locally heavy rainfall could create hazardous travel conditions during the evening commute. Hail up to half an inch is also possible in stronger cells, especially near Canon City, Westcliffe, and Alamosa.

If you’re headed along Highway 50 or I-25 near Pueblo or Walsenburg, keep an eye on the sky after 2 p.m. Isolated storms may pop fast and move quickly eastward.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the low 90s through the weekend. Daily storms will remain a concern, particularly over high terrain and nearby counties.

Stay weather-aware this evening and prepare for sudden downpours. Another round of alerts could come before sunset.
