Pueblo, Colorado – Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across southern Colorado today, with impacts likely to reach higher elevations, including areas above 10,000 feet. Forecasters warn that lightning and gusty winds of up to 45 mph will be the primary threats, with brief periods of moderate rain. Snow may even develop at the peaks of the Central Mountains by tonight, making conditions hazardous for mountaineers and travelers.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), afternoon showers will bring the highest risks for thunderstorms, particularly over mountainous terrain. The storm system is also expected to push into Pueblo County by late afternoon, with lighter showers continuing overnight.

The NWS advisory includes portions of the Western Mosquito Range, Leadville, and areas across Fremont and Pueblo counties. Local authorities are advising residents and visitors to stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions, especially in higher terrain where conditions can turn dangerous quickly. Travelers on roads like U.S. 50 and I-25 should remain cautious as rain could reduce visibility and create slippery surfaces.

The storm system will remain in place through Thursday, bringing daily showers and thunderstorms. Although rain is expected to be light in some areas, additional hazardous conditions—such as small hail and gusty winds—are anticipated through the weekend.
