Denver, Colorado – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across northeastern Colorado this afternoon, with the most intense storms likely between 2 and 9 p.m. Sunday. Areas north of I-70, including Logan, Sedgwick, and Phillips counties, face the highest risk for damaging hail, strong winds, and localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, the storm system will move from southwest to northeast throughout the day. While large hail is the primary hazard, isolated tornadoes and minor flooding are also possible, particularly in the northeast plains. The threat zone includes Fort Morgan, Sterling, and Julesburg.

Drivers in these regions should avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours. Wind gusts and hail could impact visibility and damage vehicles. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and stay alert for emergency warnings.

This is the first significant severe weather event of the season for parts of northeast Colorado, and more alerts may be issued if conditions worsen. Thunderstorm activity is expected to taper off after 9 p.m., but watches remain possible into the evening.
