Colorado Springs, Colo. – Strong thunderstorms capable of damaging wind and large hail are expected across southeastern Colorado Wednesday afternoon, with conditions ripe for severe weather through 8 p.m. MDT.

According to the National Weather Service and the Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for El Paso, Pueblo, Crowley, Otero, and Las Animas counties. The alert includes major population centers like Colorado Springs, Pueblo, La Junta, and Trinidad.

Residents in these areas should stay weather-aware and avoid outdoor activities as storms may bring wind gusts over 60 mph and quarter-sized hail. Localized flooding is also possible along Highway 50 and I-25 corridors. Power outages and hazardous driving conditions could develop quickly, especially in rural stretches where visibility may drop in heavy rain.

The watch also covers Peterson Space Force Base and nearby communities such as Rocky Ford, Ordway, and Olney Springs. Emergency management officials urge residents to charge devices and have a safe shelter location ready.

The severe weather threat will taper off after sunset, but additional alerts may be issued if storms intensify or shift eastward.
