Denver, Colorado – Holiday travelers in Colorado should prepare for winter driving conditions beginning late Friday, as a pair of storm systems target the state with light snow and dropping temperatures through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, snow is likely overnight Friday into early Saturday morning, especially across northern Colorado, including the Denver metro area. Roads could become slick and snow-covered during the early morning hours before conditions begin to improve Saturday afternoon.
A brief lull in snowfall is expected Saturday, but a second system will redevelop snow over western and central parts of the state on Sunday. This may spread eastward by late Sunday afternoon, impacting return travel plans from the holiday weekend.
The best travel window appears to be mid-Saturday through early Sunday morning. Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check road conditions before departing. CDOT may implement traction laws or chain restrictions on mountain passes.
Snowfall is expected to remain light overall, but cold air and timing could create challenging conditions, especially for early travelers Saturday and late return trips Sunday.
Additional advisories or warnings may be issued as the weekend progresses.
