Colorado Springs, CO – Thunderstorms will return to central Colorado Tuesday afternoon, bringing the threat of strong winds, hail, and dangerous lightning across the Colorado Springs area. Travelers on I-25 should prepare for sudden slowdowns or delays after 3 p.m., as localized downpours and gusts over 50 mph develop along the Palmer Divide.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms are expected to ignite over higher terrain early Tuesday afternoon and push east into the plains by evening. The strongest cells may drop quarter-sized hail and produce frequent lightning from El Paso County through Pueblo and into the Springfield area. A few isolated storms may even produce damaging winds up to 60 mph.
While Tuesday’s high will reach a summer-like 88°F, the approaching storms will keep skies unsettled into the evening hours. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and monitor alerts — especially those in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
Looking ahead, Wednesday will dry out briefly under sunny skies with a high near 94°F, but storm chances return Thursday night into Friday. A passing cold front will cool temps slightly and raise storm activity heading into the weekend.
