Colorado Springs, Colorado – Hail, lightning, and damaging winds are back in the forecast Tuesday as a strong round of summer thunderstorms targets southern Colorado.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will begin developing over the southern mountains by early afternoon Tuesday, June 24, spreading toward the southeast plains—including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Walsenburg, and Trinidad—by 3 p.m. Wind gusts up to 60 mph, brief heavy rainfall, and hail up to 1 inch in diameter are expected.
Drivers along I-25 should plan for rapidly changing conditions Tuesday evening. The risk for flash flooding is higher near recent burn scars and in low-lying areas. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activities after 2 p.m., secure outdoor furniture, and monitor alerts closely. Scattered thunderstorms will remain possible into Wednesday, with slightly lower intensity but similar hazards.
Localized heavy rainfall may lead to urban flooding, especially where drainage is poor. Lightning will also be a hazard across open areas and trails. The region dries out Thursday and Friday before another wave of storms potentially arrives Saturday and Sunday.
