Grand Junction, Colo. – Blistering heat and gusty winds are returning to western Colorado Tuesday, raising wildfire risk across Grand Junction and surrounding areas.

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday for much of Mesa County, including Grand Junction, where dry fuels, 9–14% humidity, and winds up to 30 mph could spark fast-moving fires. According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, the warning covers Fire Weather Zones 203 and 205 — areas below 8,000 feet, including stretches of US Highway 50 near the Colorado River corridor.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents should secure loose items, avoid open flames, and delay mowing or grilling until conditions improve.

Tuesday’s high will hit 94°F, with southwest winds increasing during the afternoon. Winds are expected to shift overnight into Wednesday, continuing dry and breezy conditions.

The fire threat is part of a broader pattern of intense summer heat building across the region. Temperatures in Grand Junction will rise steadily, peaking at 101°F by Sunday. There’s no rain in sight, and humidity remains critically low — a dangerous combination for fire growth and spread.

Red Flag Warnings could return later in the week if conditions persist. Stay tuned to NWS updates and remain fire-aware.
