Grand Junction, Colorado – Triple-digit temperatures are set to scorch Grand Junction by midday Tuesday as the high-pressure system tightening its grip over western Colorado intensifies fire weather risks and health hazards this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, high pressure will drive temperatures to 101°F Tuesday and 102°F Wednesday, with heat staying above 100°F through Thursday. Afternoon humidity levels will remain low and gusty winds are expected along terrain, especially near the Colorado National Monument and I-70 corridor — conditions that could elevate fire danger by midweek.

While skies will stay mostly sunny, isolated afternoon storms could develop across higher elevations Tuesday and Wednesday. These storms are unlikely to bring relief but may spark dry lightning, which has the potential to trigger new wildfires in parched terrain.

Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., stay hydrated, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Fire restrictions remain in place in parts of Mesa and Delta counties.

A cooler pattern may emerge by late Sunday as a weak upper-level disturbance approaches, but temperatures are expected to stay well above average into next week.
