Pueblo, Colorado – Storms are set to strike southern Colorado Friday, August 1st, bringing lightning, heavy rainfall, and the risk of flash flooding to Pueblo and nearby areas — especially along I-25 and near recent burn scars. The National Weather Service warns that urban flooding may begin late Friday afternoon, just as weekend traffic picks up.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, thunderstorm chances ramp up after 4 p.m. Friday, with the heaviest rain expected before midnight. Flash flooding is most likely in low-lying and recently scorched terrain. Storms could dump up to a quarter inch of rain in some areas, with stronger cells producing isolated higher totals. South winds will increase Friday evening, adding to storm development potential
- Flood-prone spots near the Arkansas River and areas east of I-25 may see street-level flooding
- Outdoor plans Friday night could be disrupted by frequent lightning and sudden downpours
- Burn scar zones from past wildfires are at increased flash flood risk — avoid hiking or backcountry travel
After Friday’s storms, a dry and sunny weekend takes over. Saturday will reach 94°F, with light breezes and low humidity. Sunday climbs even higher, near 96°F, with little relief overnight. By Monday and Tuesday, Pueblo could break triple digits — Monday’s high is forecast near 98°F, and Tuesday could hit 100°F. Conditions remain dry with low thunderstorm chances until at least midweek.
Weather alerts may be issued again if storm intensity increases. Keep phones charged and avoid travel during downpours Friday night.
