Denver, Colorado – Scorching heat and a rising chance of thunderstorms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across Colorado Tuesday afternoon, especially in metro Denver. With temperatures expected to peak near 96°F by mid-afternoon, the National Weather Service warns of a 20% chance of storms after 3 p.m., particularly along I-25 and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, light winds will turn southwesterly by early afternoon, bringing a slight uptick in moisture and instability. While rain chances remain low, localized downpours, lightning, and brief gusts could still cause issues between 3 p.m. and sunset.

Tuesday’s heat comes after a mostly dry Monday, but it’s a signal of unsettled summer conditions continuing through the week. By Wednesday, storm chances jump to 70%, with possible thunderstorms arriving after noon, accompanied by a drop in temperatures to a high of 89°F. Showers may linger into Wednesday night with a 50% chance of additional activity.
