Denver, Colorado – High winds and dry air are returning to northeast and north-central Colorado Tuesday, raising wildfire concerns and prompting local agencies to monitor conditions closely.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, wind gusts up to 40 mph will whip across mountain zones and high plains Tuesday afternoon, with peak gusts of 30 mph likely around the Denver metro area and along I-25. Relative humidity will fall sharply, especially near South Park, where dry fuels will create critical fire weather conditions from midday into the evening.

Residents in areas such as South Park, Larimer County, and along the foothills near Jefferson and Boulder counties should avoid open flames, delay any outdoor burning, and be ready for rapid fire development. Winds are expected to shift southeast by late afternoon, bringing temporary relief overnight before thunderstorms develop later in the week.

Scattered storms may roll into the region Tuesday evening, particularly south and east of Denver, bringing localized downpours and brief gusts. Though temperatures remain seasonally mild, the mix of dry air and wind heightens the threat of fast-moving wildfires during daytime hours.

Conditions begin to moderate midweek as storm chances increase. By Thursday, skies clear and warmer temperatures return.

⚠️ Stay weather-aware: fire danger remains high Tuesday; lightning and winds could increase hazards Wednesday night.
