Denver, Colorado – Residents from Denver to Colorado Springs should brace for large hail and potentially severe thunderstorms late Sunday, with the greatest threat centered along the I-25 Corridor and the Palmer Divide.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, a mix of strong to severe storms will develop this afternoon and evening, particularly in lower elevations south of I-70. The primary hazard is hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter — roughly the size of a ping pong ball — capable of damaging vehicles, rooftops, and young crops.

Cities including Castle Rock, Parker, Monument, and Colorado Springs are most at risk for these afternoon and evening storms. While tornadoes and damaging winds are not the main threats, scattered showers could reduce visibility and create slick road conditions. Early morning fog has already been reported in portions of the metro area and along the foothills.

Drivers should avoid travel during peak storm hours, secure outdoor items, and move vehicles under cover. Power outages are unlikely but possible with any stronger cells. Residents are urged to monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for updates.

Storms are expected to weaken after sunset, but additional advisories could be issued if conditions escalate.
