Colorado Springs, Colo. – Severe storms could sweep into parts of southern Colorado this afternoon, with damaging winds, large hail, and even an isolated tornado possible from 3 to 8 p.m., especially across El Paso and Teller Counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the greatest risk targets areas including Colorado Springs, Monument, Black Forest, and Calhan. Storms may produce hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter and wind gusts as high as 65 mph. A marginal risk extends across the remainder of the plains.

Residents with outdoor plans should stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings. The storm threat could impact travel along I-25 and nearby state routes, with sudden downpours and strong winds creating hazardous conditions.

Though the tornado threat is considered isolated, it cannot be ruled out, especially in elevated terrain near Woodland Park and the Palmer Divide. Today’s setup is similar to late spring storm patterns seen in recent years, often capable of producing fast-moving cells with little warning.

Weather alerts remain in effect through 8 p.m. Saturday, and more advisories could follow depending on storm development.
