Colorado Springs, CO – Critical fire weather conditions are unfolding across south-central and southeast Colorado Tuesday as temperatures soar into the mid-90s and humidity plummets, especially in high terrain zones near the Continental Divide. Winds gusting past 25 mph could combine with dry fuels to increase fire ignition potential from Leadville to La Junta.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, areas from the San Luis Valley through Chaffee and Lake Counties will face elevated to critical fire danger through this evening. Gusty winds and single-digit humidity values are the main drivers. Afternoon highs may challenge records across the Eastern Plains, including the Colorado Springs metro.

Tuesday:
Mostly sunny and smoky with highs near 94°F in Colorado Springs. Winds light early, turning southwest 5–10 mph by afternoon.

Wednesday:
Smoke lingers early, then mostly sunny with a high near 96°F. Slight chance of isolated thunderstorms late. Winds shift north to southwest.

Thursday:
Continued hot with highs near 98°F. Slight thunderstorm chance returns late afternoon. Breezy west winds.

Friday:
Cooler air arrives late Friday with highs in the upper 80s. A weak cold front could bring isolated showers and storms, especially in the southeast.

Saturday:
Higher rain chances develop with a 30% chance of afternoon storms and highs around 89°F. More widespread storms possible by nightfall.

Fire risk will remain high through at least Thursday, especially in higher elevation zones and dry valleys. Winds taper slightly but heat and dry air will persist. Residents are urged to avoid open flames, delay outdoor burning, and report smoke or fire sightings immediately.
