Colorado Springs, CO – Strong winds and dry air are pushing fire danger to critical levels across southern Colorado today, triggering Red Flag Warnings and making travel along I-25 risky—especially from the New Mexico border north to Colorado Springs.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, gusts may reach 45 mph Sunday afternoon, with humidity dropping below 10%. These conditions elevate wildfire risk significantly, particularly in the plains and valleys. Residents should avoid open flames or any activities that could ignite dry grass. Drivers along I-25 should prepare for high-profile vehicle instability and reduced visibility due to blowing dust.

Snow continues across the central mountains today with 4 to 8 inches expected by evening. High winds could reduce visibility at elevations above 9,000 feet. However, weather conditions are set to calm by late Sunday night, setting the stage for a warming trend.

Starting Monday, Colorado Springs will enjoy mostly sunny skies with highs near 70°F and calm winds between 5 to 10 mph. Tuesday brings continued sunshine with highs around 68°F, while Wednesday will be the warmest of the week, reaching a springlike 73°F.

Thursday and Friday continue the mild stretch, featuring sunny skies and highs in the mid-70s. Winds will be lighter overall but variable by afternoon.

Expect no hazardous weather from Monday through Friday, making this an ideal week to enjoy early spring conditions across the region.
