Colorado Springs, CO – A Red Flag Warning is in effect today, putting much of southern Colorado, including Cimarron Hills, at risk for fast-spreading wildfires. With gusty winds of 20 to 30 mph and low humidity of 10%, the National Weather Service warns of dangerous fire conditions until 9 p.m. The combination of strong winds and dry air will make outdoor burning extremely hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the warning affects several fire weather zones, including those near I-25, and includes areas from Pikes Peak to Fort Carson. Authorities advise avoiding outdoor burning or any activities that could spark a fire. Residents are urged to secure any loose items that could be blown away and avoid any unnecessary outdoor activities near dry brush.
Looking ahead to Sunday, expect sunny skies with a high of 72°F. Breezy conditions will persist, with winds shifting from northwest to south-southeast by the afternoon. Winds could still gust up to 30 mph, further contributing to fire risk. Monday will remain sunny and calm with a high of 78°F, offering a brief respite from extreme weather conditions.
