A mix of fire danger, strong winds, and incoming snow will impact central and southern Colorado through the week, bringing hazardous conditions. Dry and windy weather on Tuesday is increasing fire risks, while a spring storm system is expected to bring snow and high winds by Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, a Red Flag Warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday for parts of El Paso, Pueblo, and surrounding counties. Southwest winds of 10-20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph in some areas, combined with dry air, are creating critical fire weather conditions. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and be cautious with any ignition sources.

By Wednesday night into Thursday, winds will shift, bringing the first round of isolated snow showers in the higher elevations. A stronger system is expected Thursday night into Friday, with widespread snow and wind-driven precipitation likely. The I-25 corridor and mountain passes could see travel disruptions due to accumulating snow and strong gusts up to 45 mph.

Looking ahead, temperatures will drop into the 40s and 50s through the weekend, with lingering mountain snow possible. Travelers should stay updated on road conditions, especially along I-25 and U.S. Highway 24.
