Colorado Springs, CO – Gray skies stretch low across the Front Range this morning as Colorado braces for a bitter turn toward true winter. A fresh round of snow and plummeting temperatures will challenge post-Thanksgiving travelers through Sunday and into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, snow begins this evening in the central mountains, spreading south through Saturday morning. Totals could reach 3 to 5 inches in the higher elevations, with gusty winds causing blowing snow and reduced visibility through the passes. By Sunday, light snow may reach the plains, including portions of Pueblo and Colorado Springs, as highs tumble into the 30s.

Sunday marks the most active travel day of the weekend, with a 50% chance of snow showers across the southern Front Range. Roads could turn slick, especially north of Walsenburg and along I-25. Drivers should prepare for freezing temperatures by Sunday night, with lows in the teens and wind chills dipping near single digits.

Monday brings clearer skies but little warmth — highs will struggle to reach 39°F in Colorado Springs and barely above freezing in higher terrain. Meteorologists warn that this pattern may be the coldest stretch of the season so far, a “December preview” ahead of a broader national cold front expected next week.

Bundle up and plan extra time if traveling through the mountains or heading home from the holiday.
