Pueblo, Colorado – Strong winds up to 60 mph could impact travel along Interstate 25 Tuesday and Wednesday, with critical fire weather conditions likely across southern Colorado.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, mild conditions are expected to continue through the weekend before a significant increase in wind speeds early next week. Showers are forecast to end early Saturday, followed by improving conditions before winds intensify.
Forecast data show wind gusts increasing Tuesday, with several locations across the plains potentially seeing gusts between 50 and 60 mph. Similar conditions may persist into Wednesday.
Forecasters warn that critical fire weather conditions are likely, particularly across the plains where dry fuels and strong winds could support rapid fire spread. Blowing dust may also reduce visibility in open areas.
Communities including Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Canon City, Walsenburg and La Junta could experience the strongest gusts. Travel along I-25, U.S. Highway 50 and U.S. Highway 350 may become hazardous for high-profile vehicles during peak wind periods.
Temperatures are expected to remain mild before the wind event, with highs generally in the 50s to 60s depending on elevation.
Drivers, outdoor workers and agricultural operations across El Paso, Pueblo and Las Animas counties should prepare for rapidly changing conditions Tuesday and Wednesday.
The National Weather Service advises residents to secure loose outdoor objects and remain alert for possible fire weather alerts as confidence increases.
