PUEBLO, CO – The first day of spring in Colorado arrives with gusty winds, warm temperatures, and a Red Flag Warning in effect through tonight. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of critical fire weather conditions, especially in areas with dry vegetation and strong winds.

According to the NWS, wind speeds will range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. The Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday, impacting multiple counties, including Pueblo, El Paso, and Fremont. With humidity levels dropping as low as 8%, fires could spread rapidly. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose objects, and report any signs of smoke immediately.

Looking ahead, Friday will bring calmer but dry conditions, with highs in the low 60s and mostly sunny skies. The weekend will continue the warming trend, with Saturday reaching 60°F and Sunday climbing to 73°F. Breezy conditions are expected Saturday afternoon, with gusts up to 25 mph.

Despite the warmup, fire danger will persist, particularly in grassy or forested areas. Officials urge caution when using outdoor equipment or disposing of cigarettes.

By Monday, temperatures will rise into the mid-70s, offering a true taste of spring. However, the dry pattern continues, with no significant rain or snow in the forecast. Residents should remain alert for any fire weather updates and take precautions to prevent potential wildfires.
